Five Careers for a Graduate of Agricultural Studies :: essays research papers fc

Five Careers for a Graduate of Agricultural Studies I. Introduction Agriculture is a vast and expanding world for many people here in the mid-west. This is not a career to be taken lightly, since it has it's ever-changing highs and lows; which attract people and also discourage them too. Deciding what a graduate wants to do in agriculture is a difficult process, I know since I am in the process right now. Some of the following careers are ones that I am more familiar with since I have been around most of them. The following jobs: Self-employed farmer, sales (equipment, chemical, and seed), district research manager, teacher, and farm manager are a few options of a new college graduate. Below are the descriptions of each. II. Five Careers for a Graduate of Agricultural Studies In the following paragraphs I will be discussing the five jobs selected that a new graduate in agriculture may want to follow to upstart his career. A. Self-Employed Farmer A self-employed farmer is one that you see out in the field early in the morning and late at night. He does not work for a large company growing crops for them; he grows them for him to sell. The farmer's main goal is to raise the most productive crop he can, earning the best profit available, and working with the land to keep it sustainable condition. A variety of crops can be grown, and animals can be raised too. This is a job that one must truly love and be devoted to for if one is not then many things can go wrong and they will not succeed. B. Sales (Equipment, Chemical, Seed) A sales person is a person who has to have a lot of initiative to go out and introduce people to his product. I grouped sales all together because they all use the same principle and that is initiative. The sales person has many hours on the road traveling all over his district talking to people and just keeping up his public relations with the farmer, so when it comes time to sell his product he might have a edge up. This person is also very knowledgeable of everything he sells, since the buyer always has a question and they come to him when they want it answered. Also public speaking is a big part in this field, since meetings are required to introduce new products each year.

The Metamorphasis by Franz Kafka Essay -- essays research papers

Early one morning, Gregor woke to discover he had transformed into a human-size bug. However, it was not him turning from a young man into a bug in the matter of one night that worried Gregor, but the fact that he was going to be late for work! After reading the first several pages, one might find themself bewildered as to why and how Gregor dealt with this transformation with such stride. No, Gregor had not lost his mind, nor had he expected this situation to ever occur (How could something so singular ever be anticipated for that matter?). It was instead, the mere fact that working as a slave to the relentless, capitalist society he knew as life had alienated Gregor to the point that such a change as becoming a bug was nothing more than a confirmation of his insignificant place in the world.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Attention. A simple word, yet without it, even the proudest slip into the darkest shadows of life. It is essential to human survival, and is the key concept towards understanding the ongoing transformation of Gregor throughout the story. Instead of worrying about their son and his new, awkward condition, Gregor’s parents worried about themselves, and how this tremendous change would affect their lives. What Gregor longed for, a chance to be loved and treated as a part of the family, was sadly what his own parents and sister failed to see all along. They paid no attention to his emotional or physical pain, but rather disowned the idea all together that thi...

What If Exams Were Abolished

Exams are tests held for students to show their progress and knowledge in different subjects. These ‘assessments' are kept at regular periods of time every academic year. But should exams be abolished? What are the advantages and disadvantages of exams? This topic is an argumentative one. Let's see what would happen if tests and examinations were abolished by looking at the advantages and the disadvantages. Disadvantages of exams: 1 . ) Students are stressed due to the pressure of exams. They usually get nervous before the exam itself and end up forgetting everything they studied as soon as they look at the paper due to the tension. 2. ) Some students are able to rote-learn the content. This is unfair to other students as this gets the rote-learners good marks but they don't actually understand the concept and those who can't rote-learn aren't able to score satisfactory marks. 3. ) The pressure of exams has the students cramming the notes and staying up all night to study so tha t they complete the portion on time. ) The students are also pressured with the hope of their parent's to get nice marks and they may fall into depression and sometimes they might even commit suicide. These are some of the arguments supporting the disadvantages of exams. Advantages of exams.Students study harder to achieve better marks than their fellow classmates. Exams may pressurize the students but if they do their work properly and on time, they can try harder and work harder to get good marks. 2. If we be honest, the students wouldn't actually study if exams were abolished. They wouldn't be worried about the tests, marks or grades and hence, they wouldn't study. These are some of the arguments supporting the advantages of exams. According to the disadvantages and advantages of examinations mentioned above, respectively, there would be different effects on the students regarding the abolishment of exams. Essay by Florins S. CVS business proposal Essay

Introduction In the United States, CVS is the largest pharmacy retail organization. This company operates over 6100 retail stores and specialty stores countrywide and has employed over 170,000 workers. There is a necessity of offering a wider range of prescription medication options and selections system-wide in a struggle for serving the consumer base of CVS Pharmacy more consistently and effectively. The purpose of this paper is to select a more realistic good or service for an existing industry. The paper will identify the market structure, along with elasticity of the product and will also include the way the pricing will relate to elasticity of the product. Furthermore, the paper will include the way the changes in the quantity supplied as a result of the pricing decisions will affect marginal cost and marginal revenue. Moreover, the paper will focus on the non-pricing strategies, and will explain the way the changes in the business operations could alter the mix of fixed and variable costs in line with the strategy. Market Structure The market structure of CVS Pharmacy is an oligopoly. It is a market structure in which a small number of organizations sell either differentiated or standardized products in which other organization’s entry is difficult. In this market structure, the control of the firm is limited over price of the product due to mutual interdependence (with the exception of when there is conspiracy surrounded by the organization) and in which there is a non-pricing rivalry (McConnell and Brue, 2004). The oligopoly turn out is the most common structure of big -business as the establishment of trust was limited in the United States. Evasion of pricing rivalry has turned out to be nearly automatic with four or five larger firms accountable for most of the output of every industry. If an organization were to drop the prices, it is expected that their competition will do the same and all will undergo a lower profit. Conversely, it is unsafe for any singular firm to increase their prices as the others will hold the prices with the intention of gaining a share of the market. â€Å"The safest strategy is to never lower prices and raise prices only when there is abundant evidence that the other firms will also raise prices. When business conditions permit, the price leader will raise their prices with the expectation that others will follow (McConnell and Brue, 2004). Price Elasticity â€Å"Price elasticity tells how much of an impact a change in price will have on the consumers’ willingness to buy that item. If the price rises, the law of demand states that the quantity demanded of that item will decrease† (Jennifer Tuck, Chron Small Business, 2013). Price elasticity of demand indicates the decrease in the quantity demanded. Elastic-demand indicates that the consumers of the goods or service are extremely sensitive to a change in prices. Generally, a product which has numerous substitutes or is not a necessity has demanded elasticity. Elastic demand indicates that the customers of the product are not extremely sensitive to price alterations. Upon analysis of elasticity of pharmaceutical products, it is certain that pharmaceutical products cannot be considered as a necessity. Medication is considered to be a basic item, essential for the prevention and treatment of ailments and disease and, consequently, they have a particular, non-substitutive tenacity and thus are not a necessity. It indicates, consequently, that they cannot be considered as elastic. (Tom Vander Beken, 2007). While it is factual for some branded goods with little rivalry, the demand for more crowded beneficial classifications where there are generic equivalents or rival satisfying substitutes can be highly elastic. It indicates that changes in price are met in relation to the quantity with larger changes demanded. For pharmaceutical makers, the primary goal is to realizing the degree of price elasticity. Pharmaceutical makers, for better understanding price elasticity, utilize a range of methods for assessing price elasticity, comprising quantitative research, qualitative research, and retrospective data analysis assessing the effects of a number of levels on prescription demand (Brent L. Rollins, Matthew Perri, 2013). Marginal Cost & Revenue A way to determine the quantity of profit maximization is to conclude where marginal revenue equals marginal costs. Rather than computing the profit for all levels of sales; total revenue and total variable costs are considered. Marginal revenues and marginal costs are considered in a similar way like marginal profit, thus defining the amount of change for all sales’ levels (Huter, 2012, p.2). Pricing & Non-Pricing Strategies CVS needs to think through numerous elements impacting its’ business. Pricing strategies, rivals and their current products, consumer demands and suppliers are examples of these elements. For pricing strategies, CVS should consider closeouts, discounts, product bundle pricing, penetration pricing, geographical pricing, and membership or trade pricing. For non-pricing strategies, options comprise: enhanced service quality, longer opening hours, advertising, and extended warranties (Kimmons, n.d.). By pricing similar products in a different way they must focus on regional demographics because geographic pricing enables the maximization of profit. For promoting unique or new products at provisional price drops, penetration pricing is the most effective. Finally, bundle pricing and closeouts can be engaged when several seasonal goods need to be sold off to avoid a loss (Kimmons, n.d.). Enhanced service quality, longer hours and advertising needs to be included in the non-pricing strategies. Advertising grabs the attention of the consumer to the brand and engages them, making them conscious of promotions and sales. Longer hours enables the organization the opportunity to service more clients—â€Å"the fisherman with the biggest net catches the most fish†. In the end, the automated verification and dispensing systems’ implementation will boost the quality of the service, particularly in the pharmacy to enable more pharmacists to be able to counsel the patient and provide better customer service. Barriers to Entry In the retail pharmacy industry, cost is the main barrier to entry. Economies of scale, as an incumbent, enable CVS to purchase larger quantities at lower rates due to a longer relationship with suppliers because they are purchasing in bulk. These advantages allow CVS to lower prices while maintaining profit. New entrants would not be capable of adequately competing with the old firms and do not enjoy these same benefits (Anonymous, 2012). Current Global Economic Conditions In the past six months, global economic conditions have developed. Policymakers of advanced economy effectively resolved two of the major short-term threats to global activities—the threat of a sharp monetary reduction in the United States and a euro area breakup. In response, according to the latest World Economic Outlook of IMF, financial markets have rallied, and financial constancy has developed. In 2013, the report predicts real global growth of Gross Domestic Product of 3.3% on a basis of yearly average, almost the similar as the 3.2% growth perceived in 2012, and the International Monetary Fund anticipates the growth to increase to 4% in 2014 (Thomas Helbling, 2013). The Pharmaceutical Industry of United States is one of the supporters of the US Economy. It has been perceived that the Pharmaceutical Industry of the United States is developing quickly and is demonstrating no indications of slowing down. The growth of the pharmaceutical industry in the U.S. is also recognized as playing a very important part in the pharmaceutical industries around the world. Some experts have said that in the development of the United States’ pharmaceutical industries, media has played a key role. Experts have seen the major influence in the way the media has provoked health awareness among the people. Current Business Cycle’s Stage of the U.S. Economy Currently, the economy of the United States is in a stage of mid-cycle expansion. As indications of economic development seem to be gaining momentum, equity markets have solidly performed this year. In recent times, a boom in domestic energy and an increase in the housing market have been seen; while employment carries on to develop and grow. Early this year, the fiscal cliff’s resolution stopped a self-inflicted damage to the economy, letting development force to endure. â€Å"The index of US Leading Indicators—made up of 10 economic components that historically have had strong predictive power on GDP growth—also appears to confirm that growth remains intact.† (Matthew Rubin, 2013). However, current indications are becoming a reason for concern. The overdue impacts of payroll tax modification and monetary reduction through repossession has seemed to surprise financiers. Current Credit Market Conditions For consumers and for business loans, interest rates are lower this year compared to any other year. Credit exchange of U.S. government like discount, FFR and Prime rate are much lower. For example, there is a Prime rate of 3.25% and 10% more consumer loans are being given by the financial institutions. Still, loans for business are restricted and not given as easily as in the previous years. (â€Å"Beige book,† 2013) All these signs demonstrate that the market is starting to move and customers are beginning to buy and are content with the existing economy. CVS Pharmaceutical can invest in the market on this uptick by marketing with intention of attracting more customers. Conclusion The market structure of the CVS Pharmacy is an oligopoly. It is a market structure in which a small number of organizations sell either differentiated or standardized products in which other organization’s entry is difficult. Price elasticity of demand indicates the decrease in the quantity demanded. Elastic-demand indicates that the customers of the service or good are extremely sensitive to change in prices. CVS needs to think through numerous elements impacting its’ business so they may run smoothly. If CVS modifies the way they do business, they can impact their bottom line in many ways. In the past six months, global economic conditions have developed. Policymakers of advanced economy effectively resolved two of the major short-term threats to global activities—the threat of a sharp monetary reduction in the United States and a euro area breakup. The Pharmaceutical Industry of United States is one of the supporters of the US Economy. It has been perceived that the Pharmaceutical Industry of United States is developing speedily and is demonstrating no indications of lowering down. An Analysis of Prue By Alice Munro Essay

â€Å"Prue† is the main character of the story and is described by the narrator as a woman who aims to become the real person that she wants to be despite all the situations that she is actually involved with at present. Her understanding of her role as a woman is shown through the different experiences that she had to deal with in her life. It starts with her being divorced from her first husband with whom she bore children to. Her children I the story are already grown an are self sufficient, making her appear as a woman who is trying to suffice her own needs through working as a dining room hostess in Britain and currently a Toronto clerk. She is a woman of good sense of humor who is able to handle life’s challenges in a much positive approach that makes her more extraordinary than other women of her age. Considering this particular fact, it is undeniable that she has carried on with her life issues with much positivism and strength in handling her dreams in balance with what she has at the moment. Her involvement with Gordon, a man with a wife of his own though, gave her a rather unstable status with regards her emotional standing and her relationship with the said man. Considerably, such issues have not been shown by the character of Prue as something that is directly affecting her and her growth as a woman. Instead of actually being deeply involved, she then takes several souvenirs that are neither expensive nor too much worthless from the man that she adores and kept them in a tobacco tin where she kept other mementos from her past experiences and other people she met with in her life. Theme Statement (a) Women are subjected to many challenges in life and as individuals; they have different approaches in facing such issues. For Prue, hiding her emotions was likely her process of facing life. Complexities of the Story Women are known for their capability of handling multiple tasks at the same time. Serving the people that they love and still being the person that they ought to be is one of the primary things that women are mostly concerned of. In the story of Prue though, the said characterization of women has been much focused on making a known identification of how women strive to become sufficient for themselves as they grow apart from their children to whom they owe responsibility. Understandably, such status in life makes the character of Prue rather shows a woman who is able to survive life through disregarding some of the basic things that she has to do like writing letters to her children so as to make a connection to them even though they have all grown and are already having a time of their own lives. The author, Alice Munro actually presented the story with some explanations regarding the characterization of Prue missing within the plot of the story. Likely, this complication is not at all accidental. The author primarily wants the readers to fill themselves in, into the shoes of Prue and thus be able to realize the kind of person that she is in their own way of understanding. It is through this that the author could actually involve the personality of the readers within the character portrayed by Prue within the story. Element identification The element of emotion has been casually omitted from the explanations of the different situations that Prue had to deal with as she trod the journey of her life. Munro has naturally made the story more complex in terms of explaining what is already obvious within the plot. Furthermore, Munro used the different elements of womanhood to actually show the different issues that are involved with women dealing with the real situations in life that they are faced with. Relationships and responsibilities actually shape the personality of women all around the world. The description of Prue’s character in the story cold actually be noted to have a direct effect on the manner by which Alice Munro herself wants to help the readers understand the characterization of women altogether. She then aims to let the readers know that women are individuals who are in need of their own identity that separates them from the others. Unlike an average woman of her own, it could also be noted that Prue’s character in the story point out an extraordinary individual who could use humor to cover up what she really feels about a certain situation that has been presented to her by life. Her involvement with Gordon has been treated by Prue as a worthwhile experience that has developed her growth and understanding of relationships. Although it has been so much complicated considering that Gordon has a wife and still undergoing divorce proceedings, she still managed to get the best out of such personal and intimate involvement with a man. Prue’s character insists in presenting a kind of woman who is able to handle the difficulties in life with so much optimism in mind. It is through this particular process that the woman trying to grow within Prue’s personality began to reveal as the story progresses towards the end. Understandably, such an issue is presented through the ways by which she uses humor to hide her emotions. It could be observed that through the establishment of the character of Prue in that particular state, she has become an epitome of a woman who tries to become the real person that she wants to be despite all the experiences that she has to face with in her life. The regularities of the different challenges that she meets with everyday, at work, with her relationship with her children, with her relationship with the man she adores, her character stands out to be someone who is able to control her emotions and still grow out of the fact that she feels pain inside her. She knows that all these events are a part of life that is supposed to make her grow towards the person that she aims to become. Considerably, Prue’s character is presented as a regular individual who have had chances of dealing with their mistakes and their limitations in life with the use of optimism and supposed wisdom in understanding life as it presents a lot of challenges along the way. Through this, Prue’s character mirrors the capability of humans to use humor and optimist to survive life’s issues as they come every now and then. Understandably, the different effects of relationships and emotional attachments as well as responsibilities upon the personal development of women could actually be understood through the narration of how Prue actually met with the different issues that she had to handle in her life as a woman, as a mother, as a worker and as a lover who wishes for nothing but the best for her and for those whom she loves.
